Message Thought you guys might be interested in one of my friend’s projects. It’s an FD RX-7 that he is putting a 3-rotor Cosmo motor in (20B), with a monster single turbo. He has had to redo the whole firewall, as can be seen, and build a custom front subframe. When he showed me the turbo my jaw dropped, lol. I’ve never seen a turbo near that size. It’s a GT42R 1.15 and .65 trim I think. You can see the tiny OEM turbo internals sitting atop the new turbo in a couple pics.

Anyway to make this Z-related, I was over at his place to replace my broken shifter support bracket, as he had a welder and if I snapped the shifter I was hoping to weld it back up.

This is what he said about the mods to the RX-7:

“15 psi on pump gas

Parallel fuel rails for primary and secondary injectors
3 primary injectors (each is 550cc/hr, one for each rotor)
3 secondary injectors (each is 1600cc/hr, one for each rotor)
aeromotive fuel pressure regulator (1:1 ratio with boost)
walbro fuel pump 255l/hr
possibly new fuel lines (1/2 inch diameter)

custom spearco intercooler (17x6x3.5 inch core)
custom howe radiator (27x18x3 inch core)

msd dis-4 and dis-2 ignition amplifiers (each rotor has 2 spark plugs, so I need 6 channels of direct ignition)
6 bosch coils

microtech ltx-12s stand alone computer
wideband o2 sensor
greddy profec-b boost controller

gt42r turbo
tial 44mm wastegate
tial 50mm blow off valve
custom 5 inch downpipe
custom header (321 stainless steel)
need to find a catalytic converter w/ 5" inlet and outlet
custom catback

stock ports on the engine, mazda 20b
stock 5 speed tranny (it's good upto 700 rwhp)
stock rear end (4.10)
custom subframe
shortened stock power plant frame
shortened stock drive shaft
act clutch w/ 2600 lbs pressure plate
custom oil pan, 7 quarts, 2 inches thick

stock power steering and air conditioning.

I'm looking for 600 rwhp. When I rebuild the motor, I'll give it a big street port on the intake and exhaust. That'll make the engine breathe much better and there's a lot more headroom for power at higher boost.”
